Single, accumulator and system bets: what is the difference?

One selection or several matches? Compare singles, accumulators and system bets using the same numerical examples.

One match on a slip, several fixtures combined or several combinations: singles, accumulators and systems offer three ways to build a bet. Here are their differences, with examples showing how stakes and returns are calculated.

Football supporters in a stadium
Adding events to one bet raises the odds, but also the number of conditions that must win.

The single bet

A single contains one selection. With a €10 stake at decimal odds of 1.80, the potential return is €18, including the stake.

The slip depends only on that market. You can therefore follow the bet through one result.

The accumulator

An accumulator, also called a parlay, brings several selections into one bet. Their odds are multiplied.

Three selections at 1.50, 1.60 and 1.80 produce combined odds of 4.32. A €10 stake therefore shows a potential return of €43.20.

In return, all three selections must win. If just one loses, the entire accumulator loses. Every added selection becomes another condition for the slip to win.

What happens to a void selection?

When a selection is declared void, it is generally replaced by odds of 1.00. In the previous example, if the 1.60 selection is voided, the odds become 1.50 × 1.00 × 1.80 = 2.70.

Other selections remain active, unless a specific market or promotion rule applies.

The system bet

A system turns several selections into a series of smaller accumulators. A 2/3 system with A, B and C creates three doubles: A+B, A+C and B+C.

It can therefore produce a return if two selections win and one loses. But the displayed stake applies to several lines. At €2 per combination, a 2/3 system costs €6 in total.

As selections increase, the number of combinations and total stake can rise quickly. The bet slip should show these values before confirmation.

The same selections, two different outcomes

Take A at 1.50, B at 1.60 and C at 1.80 again, with a total budget of €6 in both formats.

ResultA+B+C accumulator: €62/3 system: €2 per double
A, B and C win6 × 4.32 = €25.924.80 + 5.40 + 5.76 = €15.96
A and B win, C loses€0Only A+B wins: €4.80

Amounts are total returns, including the stake. In the second row, the system pays €4.80 from the €6 staked, a net loss of €1.20. The accumulator puts everything on one line; the system spreads the stake across three doubles.

What about Same Game Multi?

Same Game Multi, or Bet Builder, combines several markets from the same event. Outcomes may be related: a favourite winning comfortably can affect certain totals or individual performances, for example.

Stake then calculates specific odds. Not every combination is available, and Same Game Multis do not offer cash out.

Details to find on your slip

  • the number of selections and their markets;
  • the accumulator’s total odds;
  • the number of lines in a system;
  • the stake per line and total amount committed;
  • the potential return shown for each combination.

Which format fits your slip?

For one selection, use a single. To bring several results into one bet, an accumulator multiplies their odds. To spread selections across combinations, a system shows the corresponding lines and total stake.

Frequently asked questions

How many selections make an accumulator?

At least two. Maximum limits depend on the sportsbook, market and combined selections.

Does a system win if one selection loses?

It depends on its structure. A 2/3 system retains doubles made up of the two winning selections.

Are accumulator odds added together?

No. Decimal odds are multiplied.

Is an accumulator more profitable?

It shows a higher potential return, but its chance of success falls with every selection added.
